About
PORTÉE is Montreal’s classical music concert calendar — from the independent quartet to the main stage. Montreal is a continuous festival; PORTÉE keeps its schedule, in French and in English.
Why PORTÉE exists
Montreal’s classical music concerts are scattered across dozens of websites, Facebook pages, and newsletters — independent ensembles are often the hardest to find, even though they are the ones bringing the scene to life on a daily basis. PORTÉE gathers all of this in a single place, without favoring major institutions over independent groups: every concert holds equal standing, and featured placement cannot be bought.
The goal is twofold: to bring visibility to niche concerts, and to renew the audience — especially those who do not know where to start.
Who is behind PORTÉE
Jean ARNOLD is a trained musicologist with a master’s degree from the Université de Strasbourg. In his native Alsace, he also distinguished himself in radio hosting on Accent4, France’s only amateur radio station dedicated to classical music. Based in Montréal for several years, he continues his musical endeavors as a chorister, notably with the Choeur Classique de Montréal. With PORTÉE, Jean wants to offer everyone a practical, music-focused tool that helps every ensemble gain strong visibility in a city brimming with culture.
How it works
Organizers submit their poster or a link via /annoncer; PORTÉE creates a listing that the organizer reviews before submission. Nothing is published without validation. See the editorial charter for the principles governing the project.
